The Oil, Gas and Salt Resources Library manages Ontario's public drilling and production data from all borings licenced under the Oil, Gas and Salt Resources Act. This includes a wide range of borings from oil & gas to stratigraphic testing to storage; including compressed air energy storage and the potential for CCUS and hydrogen storage in the future.
We are seeking talented students and recent graduates in the fields of GIS, geography, geology, or computer science to join our team and help advance our data and knowledge of Ontario's subsurface.

The OGSR Library will be hosting its 2nd annual GIS Open House on November 17th from 10 AM - 3 PM. The day will consist of interactive displays, activities, GIS demonstrations/tutorials and a complimentary pizza lunch! There will be door prizes and giveaways available at the event, that will take place at 669 Exeter Road, London Ontario. Exhibitors include the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Thames Valley Conservation Authority, Western University and more!

2016 Production Data and Annual Reporting

February 15th, 2017 is the deadline for 2016 annual reports to be received by MNRF.
Submission forms can be found on the forms section of our website. Please do not hesitate to contact the Library if you require any extra assistance in completing your forms.
Please see the attached Newsrelease, failure to report on time can have significant consequences. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) is taking failure to report on time seriously. This is a legislated requirement and compliance rates have been decreasing over the last few years. The Compliance team has various options that can be considered in cases of non-compliance.

There may still be plenty of opportunity for hydrocarbon exploration in Ontario. The Ontario Potential Hydrocarbon Resources Ordovician Hydrothermal Dolomite Play assessment is available to help you discover more oil and gas resources.
Results of the assessment suggest that total Middle Ordovician recoverable gas and oil resources is in the order of 7,960 106m3 (281 bcf) and 6,313,671m3 (39.7 MMbbls) respectively. Eighty-five per cent of this gas volume 6,799 106m3 (240 bcf) and 43 per cent of this oil volume 2,733,296m3 (17.2 MMbbs) remains to be discovered.
